After the New York Jets lost edge rusher, Carl Lawson, they need to add some pass rush help to replace Lawson. New York has acquired Shaq Lawson from the Houston Texans. The Jets will send the Texans a sixth-round pick to complete the trade.

Lawson has been traded twice this off-season; the Miami Dolphins traded Lawson to the Texans in March. One year ago, Lawson signed a three-year $30 million contract with Miami.

Lawson will be counted on to take some of the sting out of losing Carl Lawson, the Jets’ significant free-agent addition. Carl was brought in from the Cincinnati Bengals to upgrade the Jets pass rush. With the Bengals last season, Carl had 5.5 sacks. But he is out after tearing his Achilles tendon.

Last season with Miami, Lawson had 4.5 sacks. The Buffalo Bills drafted Shaq Lawson in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft with the 19th pick; Lawson spent four years in Buffalo, compiling 16.5 sacks. Lawson had a career-high 6.5 sacks in 2019 with the Bills.
