In a dominant fashion Alabama offense trio knocked out Ohio State in the championship game in a score of 52-24. Coach Nick Saban would get his 7th National Championship.
While the game started out tied 7 all in the first quarter things would go in Alabama favor as they would focus on the passing game and made sure Heisman winner receiver Devonta Smith got the ball. Smith would take over the game as they attacked the outside and got 12 receptions for 215 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. Running back Najee Harris could not be brought down by the Ohio State defense as he rushed for 79 yards, 79 receiving yards, and 3 touchdowns.
Quarterback Mac Jones was lights out in the game throwing for a game record 464 passing yards and 5 touchdowns. After a turnover in the second quarter by Jones that led to Ohio State to tie the game 14 all. Jones would march the Alabama offense down the field completing great throws to Smith and lobbing a throw to Harris for a touchdown. In that moment Jones showed he wasn’t phased by that mistake and kept his calm leading to that win. Alabama would control the time of possession 37:26 to Ohio State 22:34. While Smith went out after the half Ohio State couldn’t keep the game close.
Besides forcing that fumble in the second quarter Ohio State Defense couldn’t build upon that stop. They couldn’t stop the trio as they gave up 28 points in the second quarter and Alabama got everything they wanted as they gave up 621 total yards to Ohio State 341. Quarterback Justin Fields couldn’t settle in the game throwing 194 passing yards and 1 touchdown. Alabama’s pass rush in Fields face a lot.
What a game to end the season through this tough year as Alabama would win their 3rd title in the playoff era.
